VIRaL tool was presented to the Services Department of Vodafone Group, that further initiated discussions between Vodafone and CERTH on the possibility of exploiting visual image indexing, retrieval and localization features in the 2011-2012 roadmap of 360 releases.
CERTH-ITI has applied for a patent to the Hellenic Industrial Property Organisation regarding the ClustTour tool. ClustTour is an online city exploration application that helps users identify interesting spots in a city by use of photo clusters corresponding to landmarks and events.
The ClustTour idea was submitted to the OpenFund - a Greek venture capital aiming at financing and supporting promising high-tech start ups - and received positive feedback with respect to its technical aspects. In addition, it received valuable feedback regarding the potential for exploiting the underlying technologies.
Our paper "Cluster-based Landmark and Event Detection on Tagged Photo Collections" was accepted for publication in the IEEE MultiMedia magazine. The paper describes the technologies underlying the ClustTour web application and the forthcoming image clustering (WP2/WP3) and cluster-based event detection service (WP3).
In the context of the project standardization activities, WeKnowIt follows closely the recently created W3C Points of Interest Working Group, as its focus is very relevant to the WeKnowIt technologies.
The WeKnowIt project recently participated in a simulation of an emergency exercise, in cooperation with the Sheffield City Council and Sheffield Emergency Services. The simulation was of a chemical attack on a major building in the city centre. The emergency services were testing how effectively they could set up decontamination tents and process as many members of the public and sufficiently decontaminate them.
In terms of the cooperation between WeKnowIt and Pronto, the Sheffield City Council has provided ER-related media data to the Pronto consortium. Cooperation between the two projects is expected to continue with further data exchange, pilots testing, and common organisation of events and workshops.
