Sheffield is a city of more than half a million people and is one of the fastest growing cities in the United Kingdom. It lies at the southern end of England’s Pennine hills, within the county of Yorkshire. It is England’s greenest city, not least, because one third of Sheffield lies within the Peak District National Park. For 700 years, the city has been at the forefront of world progress in metals technology. “Made in Sheffield” became a brand recognised worldwide for innovation and quality in cutlery and tool making. Sheffield was named the UK’s first National City of Sport in 1995. Since then it has continued to build on its enviable reputation for sporting excellence. The city is home to an outstanding and amazingly versatile collection of sporting venues. With over 18,000 employees Sheffield City Council is one of the largest employers in the city. We work in active partnership with the community to create a successful Sheffield with a good quality of life for all its residents. The Sheffield City Council Emergency Planning Team prepare, maintain and co-ordinate a robust and effective City Council response to emergencies. In the event of a Major Emergency the department will work alongside the Emergency Services in an effort to minimize its effects. We are here to provide support and care for the community in a time of crisis.
