The Schroff-Endowed Chair for Information Services and Electronic Markets was created in 2001. It is part of the Institute of Information Systems and Management at the School of Economics and Business Engineering of the Universität Karlsruhe (TH) in Germany. The topic of research related to this project is Social Network Analysis and its application in different areas as: newsgroups, organizations, ontologies, customer relationship and stock markets. The research group has experience from several analysis projects with partners from industry. In all these projects the application of the research tools provided by Social Network Analysis in combination with eigensystem analysis was at the center of focus. In 2005 members of the group were granted an award at the IEEE InfoVis Contest on information visualization. Large scale recommender systems for scientific libraries are a second research area in which the research group has considerable theoretical and practical experience, both from the German Research Foundation (DFG) research initiative V3D2: Distributed Processing and Delivering of Digital Documents (DFG SPB 1041) and the ongoing DFG infrastructure project RecKVK.
