Thessaloniki is served by the Macedonia International Airport (SKG) for international and domestic flights. The airport is conveniently located 15 km southeast of the city centre and is connected directly with a number of international destinations in Germany, United Kingdom, France, Italy, Russia, Turkey and several other European countries.
Due to the direct connection with a number of hub airports in Europe (Frankfurt, Munich, Berlin, Vienna, London, Istanbul, Paris, Rome, Milan, and others), it is possible to reach Thessaloniki from almost any major airport worldwide with just one intermediate stop. There are also more than 10 direct daily connections between Thessaloniki and Athens, which in turn can also be easily reached with direct flights from many international destinations. Visitors from neighbouring or close-by countries (Albania, Republic of Macedonia, Bulgaria, Turkey, Romania, and Serbia) may consider other options as well (bus, train, car).
Once the visitor arrives in Thessaloniki, the main option for getting around is by means of the public buses, which are operated by OASTH (Urban Transport Organization of Thessaloniki) and offer a safe, efficient, and affordable option for city and area-wide travel. The 78/78A/78N bus reaches Thessaloniki city centre from the airport and the bus ticket for this route costs €1,00 for students/seniors and €2,00 for everyone else. Another easy option is taxis, which are very easy to get (even without calling) and are reasonably priced.
