This mandible fragment dating from the Roman period has a particularly large cyst. This one was located in the lower jaw and would have led to tooth loss but as the teeth were lost long before death we do not know the cause of the cyst. The person would have been aware of the cyst and it might have caused them discomfort however there is little evidence infection to the bone. An additional cyst is linked to the main root chamber of the tooth and also shows no signs of infection.
