DigiArt drone expert flies a vertical takeoff and landing drone during data acquisition.
The Palace of Philip II at Aigai (Vergina) is one of the most prominent archeological treasures that we look forward to initiating into the 3D cultural world. In April 2016, a team of drone experts from the John Moores University of Liverpool flew over the palace and captured a huge volume of images to enable full 3D reconstruction of the site. These images were delivered to Pix4D, who used their photogrammetry software to produce a 3D model of the site. The model will act as the baseline setting for the Multimedia Knowledge and Social Media Analytics Laboratory (mklab) to develop an engaging game that makes the ancient Macedonian way of life during Phillip II’s reign come alive. These initiatives are taking place as part of the EU-funded project DigiArt, which aims to create “The Internet of Historical Things” and build “New 3D Cultural Worlds.”
