Alan Smeaton is a Professor of Computing and Principal Investigator in INSIGHT: Ireland’s National Data Analytics Research Centre, at Dublin City University. He is well-known as the founder and one of the coordinators of TRECVID, an annual video benchmarking activity which has involved over 1,200 researchers from across the globe in benchmarking content-based video processing techniques. He is on the editorial board of 4 journals and serves on an average of 10 to 15 international program committees each year. He is an elected member of the Royal Irish Academy, a Senior Member of the IEEE and a Fellow of the Irish Computer Society.  Alan has published over 550 research papers and has an h-index of 42, mostly in the area of information retrieval, media analysis, and sensor networks.
