TWIN4CITIES supports cities in becoming more climate-neutral, resilient, inclusive, and efficiently managed through an integrated ecosystem of AI-enabled Local Digital Twins. The project combines interoperable urban data infrastructures with advanced modelling, simulation, and decision-support tools to help cities monitor conditions, assess risks, and explore alternative development scenarios. Participatory 3D visualisation and XR technologies will enable citizens, planners, and public authorities to better understand proposed interventions and contribute to urban co-design processes. Through stakeholder engagement, pilot demonstrations, and systematic evaluation, TWIN4CITIES will promote evidence-based planning, more efficient use of resources, and the replication of its digital solutions across European cities.
MKLab contributes by defining the project’s technical, environmental, economic, and social performance indicators and coordinating the evaluation of results across the pilot cities. It is also responsible for the development of an AI-powered 3D scene editor tool. Using technologies such as 3D Gaussian Splatting and diffusion models, the tool will support participatory urban co-design and the visualisation of alternative interventions.
