FAUNOS aims to combat organised environmental crime by improving prevention, detection, and investigation resources available to Law Enforcement Agencies (LEAs). The project specifically addresses waste and pollution crimes and will deliver innovative technical and technological resources, specialised training, anonymised statistical data on the reporting and investigation stages, as well as coordination and cooperation mechanisms among competent authorities at regional, national, and European levels. To achieve this, FAUNOS will build on the outcomes of the PERIVALLON and EMERITUS projects and on the consortium partners involved in them. The technical solution consists of an integrated, user-friendly platform enabling secure processing of multimodal data, including Copernicus satellite imagery, Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV) onboard sensor data, open and private GIS-based services, and historical records of criminal cases. The platform will be integrated into the legacy infrastructure of the Guardia Civil (GC), which will undergo a specialised CIFAL M/UNITAR-certified training programme to accelerate the learning process and ensure successful uptake of project results.
MKLab will lead the adaptation of the PERIVALLON geospatial intelligence tool-set to the requirements defined by GC, in collaboration with ETRA. Specifically, MKLab will customise and integrate the tools for earth and aerial visual observation to support the detection of water and land pollutants. Moreover, MKLab will contribute to the dissemination and communication of results through its extensive network of partners and will collaborate on the definition and implementation of business plans.
