Chris received a Bachelor of Engineering in Electronic Systems and DPhil in Biomedical Engineering both from the University of Ulster in 1995 and 1998 respectively.\u00a0 He began work at the University of Ulster in 1998 as a Research Fellow in the Northern Ireland BioEngineering Centre.\u00a0 From there he moved to a lecturing position in the School of Computing and Mathematics in 2000,\u00a0 to Senior Lecturer in Computer Science in 2003 to Reader in 2006 and to Professor of Biomedical Engineering in October 2008. His research within biomedical engineering addresses the themes of the development and evaluation of Technologies to support ambient assisted living.\u00a0 He has published extensively in these areas with the work spanning theoretical,\u00a0 clinical and biomedical engineering domains. He has been a grant holder of Research Projects funded by national (EPSRC,\u00a0 ESRC,\u00a0 MRC,\u00a0 DEL and HPSSNI),\u00a0 European (European Union IST (FP5,\u00a0 FP6 and FP7),\u00a0 InterRegIIIa,\u00a0 InterRegIVb) and International (Alzheimer\u2019s Association) funding bodies.\u00a0 Amongst these projects he was the Scientific co-ordinator of the European Union MEDICATE consortium,\u00a0 Technical co-ordinator of the European Union CogKnow consortium and Technical co-ordinator of the ESRC New Dynamics of Aging Well Consortium. At present he is Group Leader of the Smart Environments Research Group which was established in 2009.\u00a0 This team is now in excess of 35 people including academic,\u00a0 externally funded research staff and PhD students. He currently serves as an Associate Editor for IEEE Journal of Biomedical and Health Informatics and is a member of the Editorial Board of the International Journal of Biomedical Engineering and Technology,\u00a0 the IEEE Engineering Medicine and Biology Conference,\u00a0 Health Information Systems Track and the International Journal of Social Network Mining. Within both undergraduate and postgraduate teaching his research has led to the development of new modules in the domain of Emerging Healthcare Technologies.\u00a0 In addition,\u00a0 he has contributed significantly to course development of the new BSc Computing with Healthcare degree and the Post Graduate Certificate in Health Informatics. He currently holds the position of Guest Professor in Pervasive and Mobile Computing at Lulea Technical University and International Scholar at Kyung Hee University in South Korea.<\/p>\n
