Use cases and approaches for semantic metadata interoperability
Abstract
As the convergence of networks, terminals and systems increases, there is an increasing demand from users, producers and providers for media to flow as seamlessly as possible through all available channels. In order to facilitate this ubiquity, it is essential that metadata describing that media also flow seamlessly between systems and networks, and system interoperability is therefore a requirement. That interoperability must be guaranteed at the semantic level to be effective, and here is where knowledge technologies can help. This talk will explore approaches for the use of semantic technologies to improve interoperability in two different usage scenarios:
- That of multimedia news, in which different agents in the production chain must ensure news exchange, working ultimately towards efficient and semantically-empowered news consumption. This will be commented in the view of the MESH FP6 Integrated Project.
- That of a global content and network operator such as Telefonica, for which it is highly desirable to achieve a unified management of media for all its delivery platforms, instead of fragmented areas of content management.
