Use cases and approaches for semantic metadata interoperability

Abstract

As the convergence of networks, terminals and systems increases, there is an increasing demand from users, producers and providers for media to flow as seamlessly as possible through all available channels. In order to facilitate this ubiquity, it is essential that metadata describing that media also flow seamlessly between systems and networks, and system interoperability is therefore a requirement. That interoperability must be guaranteed at the semantic level to be effective, and here is where knowledge technologies can help. This talk will explore approaches for the use of semantic technologies to improve interoperability in two different usage scenarios:

The descriptions will be kept mostly at the level of identification of problems and possible solutions, given that actual usage of knowledge technologies is scarce yet in those domains. Of course, this also means that there is a lot of room for development and deployment.
